Hussein, the son of a Muslim scholar who converted to Christianity, has repeatedly suffered verbal and physical abuse from peers and teachers. However he only looks for opportunities to talk about Jesus. In Muslim countries harassment of minors who profess faith in Jesus Christ is something that happens regularly, and Hussein, an 11 year old Turkish boy, is an example of this.
Hussein has repeatedly suffered abuse by colleagues and school teachers, in proclaiming his Christian faith wearing a silver cross. “I wanted people to ask me about it so that I could share Christ,” says Hussein. Hakeem, the boy’s father was a Muslim scholar who studied the Quran in Syria and Iran. But when questions about Islam had no answers, he turned to the Bible and later decided to convert to Christianity along with his family. However, he had to forbid Hussein from wearing his silver cross for fear of persecution by radical Muslims.
In most Arab countries, all students must attend school lessons about Islam. Those who refuse to recite the Koran are beaten by the teacher. That was the case of Hussein, who because of the constant attacks and intimidation began to suffer from seizures. Fortunately he now attends a new school where he suffers less abuse. Hussein says, ”Christ told us, ‘you will suffer for me’, then fine, we shall suffer and we must be content to suffer for Him. The Lord is with me!” Hussein adds that he will continue speaking to others about Jesus, with or without his silver cross.
